Peter Neufeld


In 1974 Peter was first introduced to stage lighting at Stowe School's Roxburgh Hall. In 1979 he joined the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, and in 1982 he left London to begin his professional career in Sydney. He has lit many hundreds of stage shows in both dramatic and corporate theatre and has played a key role in many international events. The sheer volume and diversity of shows that he has worked on are indicative of the uniqueness of his Australian experience.


He has now been engaged full time by Vectorworks, Inc. who create the industry standard Computer Aided Design program of the same name. His role is in both sales and product support and he is the entertainment industry specialist for Australia.

Sydney Theatre Company:

The Pig Iron People, The Vertical Hour, Influence, The Club, Wunnerful Liberace and Rome Tremble.

Bell Shakespeare Company:

Measure for Measure, The Wars Of The Roses, The Servant Of Two Masters, Hamlet (2003) and The Merchant OfVenice directedby Richard Wherrett.

Ensemble Theatre:

21 productions including some world premiers of new plays by David Williamson. Highlights include: Happiness, Nothing Personal, Neighbourhood Watch, Warning: Explicit Material, Little Nell, Tuesdays with Morrie, Trying, A Local Man, Aunty And Me, Spinning Into Butter.

Other productions:

Looking Through A Glass Onion, including its season in the West End; Cafe Brel;The Bastard From The Bush; The Elocution Of Benjamin Franklin; Don's Party for the Sydney Opera House Trust; and Pearls Before Swine and Pell Mell, both directed by Geoffrey Rush; Principal lighting designer for the largest urban renewal project at the time for the public domain space in Australia at Green Square in Sydney; the massive BHP steel foundry exhibit in the Newcastle Regional Museum.


Selected international corporate events include the production & lighting design for the 2006 Rotary International Convention in Copenhagen and the lighting of Rotary’s Centennial Convention in Chicago in 2005; Drawing the lighting plans for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games 2006 opening & closing ceremonies. Keystone correction drawings for the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games 2010 and the Sydney Olympics 2000 among others for The Electric Canvas.


2017-1986

Freelance stage lighting designer working in all related fields of live production. Proudly joined OzCAD Pty Ltd (The National Distributors of Vectorworks) in Sales and Product Support in 2006.


1986-1982

Arrival in Australia and employment at the Kinselas venue, Sydney becoming involved in all productions and tours mounted there.


1981

Worked for Merrill Lynch commodities in Mayfair, London


1980

Futures commodity broker with SNW commodities, London


1977

Invited to join the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain as a member of its technical department.
